Windsheim, 28 July 1925

Dear Hans,

We received your letter. Father will not buy a wreath, but rather a flower bouquet. Things went very fast for our Hanna. I think she did not realize herself that she was going to die. In the evening she ate well at dinner, and the following morning at 5AM she was dead. It has been 8 weeks ago today. Aunt Killian was there too. I think Hanna was afraid of her.

I thank you for the notebook and newspapers that you sent, although I have not had much time for reading. I have to postpone my radio project until closer to Christmas. First, I want to build a door.

At the moment I am working in the technical office and will likely be there until next spring. I am now earning 30 Marks. Schmotzer is in the process of building a foundry and wainwright shop. That is a good thing for we interns (3 of us), and we are learning a lot. I will probably be in Schwabach two weeks from Sunday to visit a business exhibition.

Scholli is dead. He had contracted rabies, so Father had to shoot him. Other than that, there is no news. Eberhard visited today and brought Hanna a bouquet that cost 10M.

You are surely aware of the conditions in Germany. The French have big problems in Morocco. That should allow us to regain our Ruhr region, since they need their troops in Morocco. It is said that some former German general staff officers are fighting with Abd El Krim, a certain Richter and Dietrich. Specifics are not available. One thing is very clear: our enemies have respect for our general staff as can be read in their reports.

Enough for now - more next time. I’m going to bed. It is 9:30 here, 3:30 where you are. Sleep tight - don’t let the bedbugs bite. Good night.

Phips
